YANGON, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi has called for working strenuously for genuine peace and in building the democratic federal republic, according to the National Reconciliation and Peace Center (NRPC) Thursday.

In her message of greeting, sent on the occasion of the 30th anniversary celebration of establishing peace of the Wa Special Region-2 Wednesday, Aung San Suu Kyi, who is also NRPC chairperson, stressed the need to "move forward from the present stage of maintaining the current ceasefire agreement through mutual restraint to the stage where we should be able to establish sustainable and durable peace for the whole union".

Recalling that the path of peace with Wa ethnic armed group was initiated 30 years ago, providing with cessation of armed conflict and stability with mutual respect, mutual regard and mutual restraint, Suu Kyi said with satisfaction that "Wa" ethnic nationals have been witnessed for enjoying the fruits for peace, stability and development.

However, to obtain durable peace, she stressed the importance to create a union that can guarantee democracy, human rights, equity and full rights for ethnic nationals.

She sticked to the fact that only after signing the nationwide ceasefire accord (NCA), would it be able to convene political dialogue and achieve peace.

She emphasized that NCA is a door and not the end of the path or goal, saying that if there are matters which are not covered under the agreement, the ethnic armed organizations have the option to negotiate and discuss in order to reach agreement.

She cited the successful convening of the 21st Century Panglong Peace Conference for three times as saying that the conference has achieved agreement for many fundamental federal principles.

She spoke out the government's genuine political desire which is to ensure the participation of all those ethnic national groups who should be provided with opportunity to participate in.

The ceremony for the 30th anniversary of establishing peace of the Wa Special Region-2 was held in Pangsang, Shan state, on Wednesday, joined by government delegation comprising Minister of Labor, Immigration and Population U Thein Swe and Peace Commission Vice chairman U Thein Zaw among others.

With speech delivered by leader of the United Wa State Party as well as the United Wa State Army U Pau Yu Chang, a military parade attached with cultural performances also took place.
