BEIJING, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- The following is a selection of remarks on the Belt and Road Initiative made by Chinese President Xi Jinping, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

"I have come up with this Belt and Road Initiative based on my observation of and reflection on the situation of the world." (Excerpts from Xi's speech at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation held in Beijing in May 2017)

"In a world of growing inter-dependence and challenges, no country can tackle the challenges or solve the world's problems on its own. Individual countries need to coordinate national policies and make a good use of economic factors and development resources on a greater global scale. Only in this way can we build synergy and promote peace, stability and common development in the world." "The Belt and Road Initiative I put forward aims to achieve win-win and shared development.
