NEW DELHI, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Four members of a family have been killed after their car rammed into a parked truck in southern Indian state of Telangana Friday, police said.

The accident occurred on a busy highway near Katnapally in the state's Peddapalle district, some 180 km from capital Hyderabad.

"The car hit the stationary truck from behind at high speed this morning. A couple and their two children died on the spot," a police official said.

The family was returning to Peddapalle town from Hyderabad when the accident happened, the official said.

Eye-witnesses told police that the person driving the car had failed to apply brakes when he suddenly spotted the truck while overtaking another vehicle from the left side.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, he added.
